One pavan (also called a sovereign or savaran) is 8 grams of gold. To find the 1 pavan rate, multiply the 22K per-gram rate by 8. For example, if 22K is ₹9,875 a gram, 1 pavan is ₹79,000.
Where pavan is used
Customers in Kerala say “pavan” (പവൻ) and in Tamil Nadu “savaran” (சவரன்). When a family plans a wedding, they count in pavans — “we need 30 pavan”. Showing the pavan rate on your poster saves them the maths.
Simple calculation
| 22K rate per gram | × 8 | 1 pavan (8 g) |
|---|---|---|
| ₹9,000 | × 8 | ₹72,000 |
| ₹9,500 | × 8 | ₹76,000 |
| ₹9,875 | × 8 | ₹79,000 |
Example numbers only. Always use your shop’s rate for the day.

Show it on your poster
Many Studio designs show both “22K · 1 gram” and “22K · 8 gram”. Switch your poster to Malayalam and the 8 gram box reads “1 പവൻ”; in Tamil it reads “1 சவரன்”.
Remember making charges and GST
The pavan rate is for gold only. The final bill adds making charges and 3% GST. See how a jewellery bill is calculated.
